詹姆斯D. Reid earned his doctorate in philosophy at the University of Chicago 和 is currently Professor of Philosophy at the Metropolitan State University of 丹佛. He has taught ethics 和 the history of philosophy at Chicago (where he won a Wayne C. Booth 研究生 Student Prize for Excellence in Teaching), 科罗拉多大学, the College of William 和 Mary, 和 the United States Air Force Academy.

His research is interdisciplinary, drawing from philosophical, 艺术, 和 scientific sources, devoted to problems in axiology 和 the theory of meaning, 和 responsive to the challenges of discovering fitting ways of expressing the importance of what we care about. He has published articles 和 book chapters on various philosophical issues in Kant 和 his successors in the 19th 和 20th centuries. He received a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to support a collaborative translation of Heidegger’s Die Frage nach dem Ding (Rowman & Littlefield, 2018). He co-edited Thoreau’s Importance for Philosophy (Fordham University Press, 2012) 和 is the author of Being Here Is Glorious: On Rilke, 诗歌, 和 Philosophy (Northwestern University Press, 2015), Heidegger’s Moral Ontology (Cambridge University Press, 2018), 和, 坎迪斯·R. 克雷格, Agency 和 Imagination in the Films of David Lynch: Philosophical Perspectives (forthcoming, 列克星敦的书, an imprint of Rowman & 李特佛尔德). His current projects include a monograph on the German philosophical poet Novalis, a translation of some of Novalis’s philosophical 和 literary writings, 和 a book-length interpretation of Rilke’s Sonnets to Orpheus. He hopes in the coming years to revisit a long-st和ing project on freedom 和 nature in Kant’s Critical Philosophy.
